RecommendedReads | The Great Gatsby

It's tough to imagine the "Roaring '20s" when reading that skinny little classic, The Great Gatsby, by F Scott Fitzgerald. I think it's been through so many reprints by now, its tough to get hold of one by a publisher who bothers to use good paper and charge you for the privilege of owning it (Mine was for Rs 100 when I bought it in 2003). But watch the trailer of the up and coming Hollywood film based on the classic, and you will lack imagination no more. After all, it is produced and directed by Baz Luhrmann! Starring Leo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby (he's going apeshit with historical drama, isn't he?), ex-Spiderman, Toby Maguire as Nick Carraway and as Daisy we have Brit actress Carey Mulligan whose resume is filled with Oscar nominated flicks like An Education, Never Let Me Go and Shame. (Full cast here)

Indian audiences will also be enthrallment now that Bollywood's Amitabh Bachchan has been roped in as Meyer Wolfsheim. I don't know how this will play out, but he is renowned for his character roles. I'm also quite sure Mr Bachchan should and would have taken offence to Anil Kapoor going to the Oscars before him and this one, if all goes well, does have the formula to be popular with the Academy.

So this week we recommend you revisit this classic before the stores run out of copies. It isn't a personal favourite -- I don't like hype, especially not in literature -- but it is an enjoyable read that keeps you returning at different stages of your life. Guess that's why they call them classics.

Buy The Great Gatsby from Flipkart here and Amazon here. Also,'Like' our page on Facebook

Enjoy the trailer but do tell us--do you think 3D will make a difference to this movie in any way whatsoever? Moreover, is 3D really necessary at all?
